Happy SinterKlaas Day (early!)

We talked about how they celebrate Christmas in Holland. On December 6th, they celebrate Sinterklaas Day. The children place their wooden shoes by the fireplace and fill them with carrots and hay for Sinterklaas' horse. In the morning, they hope their shoes will be filled with treats and gifts from Sinterklaas. We decided to try it out in our class!

And it worked! We put our shoes by the fireplace and went back to class to do our work. Before we went home we went to check our shoes and guess what? Sinterklaas left treats for us! He even left treats for the kids who were absent today! Lucky! The kids LOVED this! :)

Today was just one of those wonderful days at preschool- the kind that makes me love what I do! I am so lucky!

Another Thanksgiving Party!

Yesterday was our Thanksgiving Feast with the 4 year old classes. They brought lots of yummy snacks to share and we made these awesome turkeys:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! See you next Tuesday!

Little Turkeys!

Friday was our big "Thanksgiving Feast" with the three year old class! As you can see, they had quite the spread:

Pudding, crackers, fruit roll-ups, oreos, marshmallows and more. That is my kind of feast!

The kiddos also had a great time making "Turkey Hats." I had to laugh because a few of them got a little carried away with the glue and may have went home with glue on their heads. Oh well- Thanksgiving only comes once a year! :) (and I am thankful for washable glue!)

Number Books and Lovely Leaves

Last week the 4 year old class was so excited to finish their number books- and they were super excited to take them home! Each week they have practiced writing the number of the week, then they got to add shapes along with the number. They were also excited to write "The End" at the end of the book... I think it gave them a big sense of accomplishment!

We also did a fun art project last week- we used Karo syrup to finger paint leaves. It was messy, gooey and fun! The leaves are STILL drying, but I hung them up anyways! :) Check them out:

And, a few updates:

Book orders have been ordered and should be on their way!

Next week we will just have school on Tuesday. Please have your child bring a snack to share with the class- we'll be having a Thanksgiving Feast! :) Some ideas of things to bring are: baby carrots, olives, crackers, chocolate chips, pretzels, etc. We do have nut allergies in our classes, so please do not send anything with nuts. Thanks!

Have a great week!

Thankful Turkeys

In class we have been talking about all the things we are thankful for. Last Thursday, each student got to write down one thing they are thankful for and we added them to our class turkeys. They did a great job!

Morning Class:

Afternoon Class:

Also, ask your child to show you the "Turkey" Poem we have been learning in class- it is too cute!
"I have a turkey big and fat.
He spreads his tail and walks like that.
His daily corn he would not miss,
and when he talks it sounds like this:
gobble gobble gobble gobble!"

Firestation Field Trip!

What better way to learn about the letter "F" than to go on a Field trip to the Firestation! The Eagle Mountain Fire Department did a great job and we had lots of fun on our field trip last Friday!

Thank you, parent volunteers! We couldn't have gone without you! :)

Updates

Wow- I didn't realize that I hadn't updated for 2 weeks! Sorry about that! Halloween is a busy time of year for me- my husband's birthday, my daughter's birthday and then all the Halloween craziness makes October a busy month!

We had a great time with our Halloween parties on Thursday and Friday! The kids were very well behaved and they all did a great job with the program- I hope you enjoyed the fun songs and poems we learned!

November is always a great month- we will be focusing on and talking about all the things we are grateful for. I love this time of year!

Thanks for checking in! I promise to update more often from now on! :)

October Field Trip!

We had a great time on our field trip today! Both classes had a blast at Cornbelly's! One of my favorite things was seeing all the kids in their bright yellow shirts- it sure helped us keep track of everyone! Thanks so much to our parent volunteers for all the help- we couldn't have gone without you! :)

Pumpkin Man

The kids are dying to bring this art project home, but I am keeping them for at least 2 more weeks to decorate our classroom for Halloween! So, I thought I would publish a sneak-peek here! Check out our cute "Pumkin-Men!"

Field Trip Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is our first field trip of the year- we are heading to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point!Since it is a little bit of a drive, we are going to try and leave right around 9:30 a.m. (morning class) and 1:00 p.m. (afternoon class). If you ordered a class shirt, I have them ready to go! Just have your child wear a long sleeved t-shirt and we'll put it on over the top. It should be a fun day! Thanks to all my parent volunteers- we couldn't go without you! See you tomorrow!

Short Week!

Just a quick reminder that this is a short week- we will just have school Tuesday and Wednesday, and we will be out Thursday and Friday for Fall Break. Have fun! :)

Painting Dinosaurs

In our 3 year old class on Friday, we talked all about the letter "D!" The kids loved using watercolors to paint this cute dinosaur- they were still wet at the end of class, so I'll send them home next time! :)

If you have noticed, I have been sending home pages we haven't been getting to in class. We have been talking about the numbers and the letters, we just run out of time to color the pages! Feel free to let your child color them during the week- it will be a good review!

Random Notes

Thank you, everyone for turning in your field trip permission forms (4 year old class). I am happy to announce that we have plenty of helpers, in both classes! If you volunteered to help, I am planning on you! Please let me know if something comes up and you can't come! Thanks!

Also, I am so excited to see all the children writing their names! If your child is struggling with their name, please practice with them at home. You can let them make their name out of play-doh, write it in lots of different colors, or you could cut out the letters in their name and let them decorate them. There are so many fun things you can do to help them with this important concept!

We are working on the letter E this week and the number 5. I noticed today that a lot of the kids are struggling with writing "5." This would also be something great to practice at home this week and we will be working on it in class as well!

Thanks again for sharing your sweet kids! I love each one of them!

C is for Clouds!

In my Friday three year old class we learned about the letter C... we practiced writing the letter C, we learned the "C is for Cookie" song, ate cookies for our snack, and made clouds. Too fun!

Dinosaur Day

Yesterday was our much anticipated "Dinosaur Day" in the 4 year old class. We read books about dinosaurs, ate dinosaur fruit snacks and even watched a little dinosaur movie, but the thing the kids loved most of all was making our "dinosaur fossils." They had so much fun stamping footprints in salt dough, then I threw them in the oven for awhile. After they baked, the kids had a really hard time not eating them! Maybe next year we'll make our "fossils" out of sugar cookie dough! :)

They did a great job! :)

Bubble Art!

We had a fun "B" day on Friday with the three year old class! The kids LOVED the bubble art we created! We mixed food coloring with the bubbles, and when they popped it made an awesome art project! I hope your child sang you the "Bubble Song"- it is so cute!

C is for Cookie!

We have had fun this week learning the letter C! Today we made pretend cookies.... and we ate plenty of the 'extra' chocolate chips! :) Tomorrow we will be making real chocolate chip cookies for our snack (if you count frozen cookie dough as 'making'- which I totally do!). It will be fun!
P.S. Have your child sing you the "C is for Cookie" song- they have done a great job learning it this week!

Apple Day with the 3 Year Olds!

We had a fun apple day today! We made an apple puppet, tasted apples, drank apple juice, sang a song about apples and used apples in our art project:

(we used apples as stamps to create our art project!)

We also learned about the letter A, the number 0, the color RED, and had show and tell. It was a fun day! :)

School Shirts

Don't forget to bring back your order form if you would like a Smarty Pants Preschool T-shirt! I'll order them next week and we should get them in time for our first field trip! The four year old class shirt will be yellow, the three year old shirt will be blue.

Oh- and a special "thank you" to my super cute model... a Smarty Pants Preschool Graduate! :)

Breakfast with a Book!

We celebrated the letter "B" today with "Breakfast with a Book!
" It was so much fun! :)

Hooray for a GREAT First Day!

Today was our first day of school.... and it was WONDERFUL! Everyone was so well behaved! It is going to be a great year!

Thanks for staying for our open house today! I hope it answered any questions you may have about preschool. Always feel free to email me or call me if you have any questions or concerns- I am here to help! :)

We learned a fun song today- we will sing it everyday in class. See if your son or daughter can sing it for you:

"Today is a wonderful day,
For I am going away!
Not to the circus, not to the pool-
Can't you guess?
I'm going to school!"
Thanks for your sweet kids. It really was a good day! See you tomorrow!

PS: Don't forget about "APPLE DAY" this Thursday! Everyone needs to bring ONE apple to school. Thanks!

It's Almost Time!

I can't believe it- just a few more days until school starts! Miss Marci has TONS to do to get ready! :)

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 7th. The morning class goes from 9:30 to 11:30, we will have a short open house with our parents from 9:30 to 9:45, then we will get to work! The afternoon class goes from 1:00 to 3:00, and the open house in that class is from 1:00 to 1:15.

The theme for September is "It's All About ME!" We will be learning all about each other, as well as learning our classroom rules. We will also cover the letters A-D and the numbers 1-4.

On Thursday, September 9th, we will have "Apple Day." Please plan on sending one apple to school with your child that day. We will have them for our snack! We will also do a fun apple art project, learn an apple song, and graph which kind of apple we like best.

I am really looking forward to working with you and your child. As I have watched "my" preschool kids from last year go into kindergarten, it has been such a neat experience for me to hear how great they are doing. Teaching preschool has been a dream come true for me- it gives me the "best of both worlds"- I love teaching and I also love being home as much as I can with my kids. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to work with your child this year!

If you have any questions about preschool, please leave a comment on this blog, or feel free to email me at www.bedingfields@gmail.com. I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have!

Thanks!
Miss Marci :)

New Post!

What? I am posting on the preschool blog? Crazy! Sorry for the lack of updates... last year was a crazy year- being a first year teacher again, as well as my first year as Young Women president in my ward- needless to say, I was VERY busy!
One of my goals for next school year is to post more on this blog. I think it is a great way to keep parents informed of what is going on and it is a fun way for me to journal all the fun things we do in preschool! Thanks for checking in and check back for more updates!
