4 year old class- Letter C week!

Wow... I am soooo not good at updating the preschool blog! I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since we had our "C is for Cookie" day!

The kids loved making their letter C cookies...I gave them a few extra chocolate chips to munch on when they finished their paper cookie!

So of course, the next day we had to make real cookies for snack time! Yum! :)

Number Books and Lovely Leaves

Last week the 4 year old class was so excited to finish their number books- and they were super excited to take them home! Each week they have practiced writing the number of the week, then they got to add shapes along with the number. They were also excited to write "The End" at the end of the book... I think it gave them a big sense of accomplishment!

We also did a fun art project last week- we used Karo syrup to finger paint leaves. It was messy, gooey and fun! The leaves are STILL drying, but I hung them up anyways! :) Check them out:

And, a few updates:

Book orders have been ordered and should be on their way!

Next week we will just have school on Tuesday. Please have your child bring a snack to share with the class- we'll be having a Thanksgiving Feast! :) Some ideas of things to bring are: baby carrots, olives, crackers, chocolate chips, pretzels, etc. We do have nut allergies in our classes, so please do not send anything with nuts. Thanks!

Have a great week!

Thankful Turkeys

In class we have been talking about all the things we are thankful for. Last Thursday, each student got to write down one thing they are thankful for and we added them to our class turkeys. They did a great job!

Morning Class:

Afternoon Class:

Also, ask your child to show you the "Turkey" Poem we have been learning in class- it is too cute!
"I have a turkey big and fat.
He spreads his tail and walks like that.
His daily corn he would not miss,
and when he talks it sounds like this:
gobble gobble gobble gobble!"

Hooray for a GREAT First Day!

Today was our first day of school.... and it was WONDERFUL! Everyone was so well behaved! It is going to be a great year!

Thanks for staying for our open house today! I hope it answered any questions you may have about preschool. Always feel free to email me or call me if you have any questions or concerns- I am here to help! :)

We learned a fun song today- we will sing it everyday in class. See if your son or daughter can sing it for you:

"Today is a wonderful day,
For I am going away!
Not to the circus, not to the pool-
Can't you guess?
I'm going to school!"
Thanks for your sweet kids. It really was a good day! See you tomorrow!

PS: Don't forget about "APPLE DAY" this Thursday! Everyone needs to bring ONE apple to school. Thanks!

Witches and Frankenstein!

Today we got to make puppets! I let the kids choose between a Witch and a Frankenstein. I was surprised that they all picked the Witch.... Frankenstein was actually my favorite! :) Doing an art project like this can get a little wild and crazy- especially with preschoolers- but the kids did a great job! We ran out of time, so your child should have brought home arms and hands for the witch... I told them they could finish at home!
We had a great week! Can't wait for our field trip on Tuesday! Our t-shirts should be done today, so I will drop them off as soon as I can. If your child can wear their shirt on Tuesday it will help us keep track of everyone! Thanks!

First Day of School for Three Year Olds!

WOW! Today was our first day of school with the three year olds and they are JUST SO CUTE! AND they have a lot of energy! We had fun writing the letter A, learning a new song and poem, coloring the number 1, having pretzels for snacks, talking about school rules, and making a magnet clip. It was busy and fun!
Thanks for sharing your child with me! I love love love it! :)
Have a great weekend!

Second Day of School!

When I said I was going to update this blog more often when school starts, I wasn't kidding! Our second day of school was just as exciting as the first! The kids seemed a little more comfortable, and maybe a bit more "chatty". :) We are still working on the rules, and I know they will get better and better at being in school. If your child says he or she had "to change their card" just know that they did a quick time out and then tried harder to follow the rules. We have a great class and it is going to be a fun year!
Today we learned our "A" poem:
"Way up high in the apple tree,
Two little apples smiled down at me.
I shook the tree as hard as I could-
Down came the apples
MMMMM they were good!"
We did some cute actions with the poem and then got to work on writing the letter A. Your child should have brought home their "A" worksheet. If they didn't finish at school, have them finish tracing the a's.
We also worked on a "First Week of School" book that will be sent home tomorrow and celebrated a birthday. Life is busy in preschool!
With the weather being so nice, we may be outside at the end of class. We will usually be on the south side of my yard, just come through the gate and we'll be there!
Thanks so much for sharing your preschooler with me!

First day of school!

Our first day of school finally arrived! We had a great time today and I am excited for the year! We talked about rules and why they are important- we read the book "The Day the Awful Aardvarks came to School" and talked about what rules we need in our class. Here is what we came up with:

1. Be good
2. One person talks
3. Be a Super Sitter
4. Be safe
5. Be kind

We'll keep talking about the classroom rules and will work on them everyday! :)

We also decorated our "Poem Folder" and added our first song/poem to it. Have your child sing you the song we learned:

"Today is a wonderful day, for I am going away!
Not to the circus, not to the pool-
Can't you guess? I'm going to school!"

And last, but not least we made a "homework clip" to stick on your fridge or magnet board. You can clip up your newsletters or the papers your child brings home from preschool!

We had a great day- can't wait for tomorrow! :)
